Special Events Promote Cancer Prevention!
The Cancer Prevention Institute’s annual events promote cancer prevention by helping to raise much-needed funds to promote the Cancer Prevention Institute’s programs for research, cancer screening and community education. Here are a few great opportunities for you to have fun while you support the Cancer Prevention Institute:
Panera Bread's "Pink Ribbon Bagel"
to Benefit Cancer Prevention Institute
In honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, Panera Bread has developed a great tasting cherry bagel, which contains cherry and white chocolate chips giving it a touch of "pink". The campaign is designed as a fundraiser to support the Cancer Prevention Institute in the fight against breast cancer. The special bagels are only available for a limited time. Panera will donate a portion of the proceeds to the Cancer Prevention Institute.

Olivia Newton-John Concert To Support Cancer Prevention, November 17, 2004
In the 1970's she wanted to know if you'd never been mellow. Today, singer and actress Olivia Newton-John has thrown away that "mellow" moniker and is almost aggressive as she helps cancer prevention causes throughout the country. Sponsored by NCR, the singer/actress is appearing at the Schuster Center with the Dayton Philharmonic on November 17. A breast cancer survivor herself, Newton-John is donating $5.00 from every sold ticket to the Cancer Prevention Institute.
"We are very excited to have a performer the caliber of Olivia Newton-John supporting our efforts in cancer prevention," said Dr. Hans (J.) Berkel, M.D., Ph.D., President and CEO of the Cancer Prevention Institute. "Beyond her obvious singing and acting talents, she is also living proof that a diagnosis of breast cancer is not a death sentence." In July of 1992, a routine exam detected the lump in her breast that was confirmed to be cancer. A combination of surgery and radiation therapy was successful, with the singer getting a clean bill of health the following year. Since her illness, Newton-John has been very open to discussing her personal battle with cancer. She believes that early detection is the key to surviving breast cancer. She is also raising funds for a cancer support center in Melbourne, Australia that will be named in her honor.
During her recovery, Newton-John wrote a number of songs detailing her struggles with the diagnosis and treatment. That result was an introspective album entitled "One Woman's Journey." Although the album was not released in the United States, it did enjoy critical and popular acclaim in other counties.
Tickets go on sale September 7 via the Dayton Philharmonic box office. To order tickets, call (937) 228-3630 or go online at www.ticketcenterstage.com.
