Join the Cancer Prevention Institute Team!

The Cancer Prevention Institute depends on the help of volunteers to put programs into action and stretch donated dollars further. The extraordinary commitment of the Cancer Prevention Institute volunteers is evident in their willingness to share their time, life experiences and talents to further cancer prevention in our community. Whether it’s helping with cancer screening programs, support for the Cancer Prevention Institute’s community events, or office work that frees a Cancer Prevention Institute employee for other tasks, our volunteers are indispensable. They are a great group of fun people with a single purpose: to make Dayton a healthier, happier place to live.

TITLE: Administrative Assistant volunteer

 

PURPOSE OF JOB: To assist various departments with basic clerical duties.

 

DATE/TIMES: Weekdays, 2-4 hours/week between 11 am – 3 pm

 

DUTIES INCLUDE:
1) Clip and organize newspaper articles about the Cancer Prevention Institute
2) Filing
3) Match purchase orders with invoices for Finance department.
4) Answer telephone and transfer calls to offices or voicemail, as needed.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be 16 years of age.
Reliable, responsible and dependable.
Able to receive instructions and follow directions.
Comfortable answering a multi-line switchboard.
Good customer service skills.
Some receptionist/secretarial experience preferred.

TRAINING:
Orientation to the Cancer Prevention Institute.
Instruction in filing system and initiation with Finance processing systems.
Direction in how to operate switchboard.

TITLE: Research Project Assistant volunteer

 

PURPOSE OF JOB: To assist epidemiologists with research projects, including colorectal cancer screening project.

 

DATE/TIMES: Dates and hours will vary

 

DUTIES INCLUDE:
1) Assist epidemiologist with delivering screening kits to eligible persons.
2) Assist clients with completing intake paperwork.
3) Interact with clients to assess eligibility for study.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:
Medical background helpful.
Must be 18 years of age.
Be dependable, reliable and responsible.
Good personal communication skills.
Good customer service skills.
Sign confidentiality agreement.

TRAINING:
Orientation to the Cancer Prevention Institute.
Introduction to research project.
Instruction in eligibility and intake processes.

LOCATION: Will vary

 

BENEFITS: Opportunity to help research department increase participation in the EZ detect compliance and acceptance study which may lead to increased early detection of colorectal cancers.

TITLE: Screening Assistant volunteer

 

PURPOSE OF JOB: To assist the Cancer Prevention Institute’s Community Outreach staff to complete various cancer screenings at community health events.

 

DATE/TIMES: Will vary.

 

DUTIES INCLUDE:
1) Help with set-up of health education display materials.
2) Assist employees with collecting client eligibility and intake information.
3) Interact with community members to explain screening process.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:
Medical background helpful.
Must be 18 years of age.
Be dependable, reliable and responsible.
Good personal communication skills.
Good customer service skills.
Sign confidentiality agreement.

TRAINING:
Orientation to the Cancer Prevention Institute.
Instruction in eligibility and intake processes.
Education about screening process and benefits.

LOCATION: Will vary

TITLE: Facilities Maintenance volunteer

 

PURPOSE OF JOB: To maintain the Cancer Prevention Institute’s facility and grounds.

 

DATE/TIMES: 5-10 hours/week. Times flexible: weekdays, between 8 am – 5 pm.

 

DUTIES INCLUDE:
1) Simple plumbing and electrical maintenance
2) Painting
3) Lawn care
4) Wash windows
5) Miscellaneous duties (e.g. replacing bulbs, hanging signs, moving boxes, etc.)

 

QUALIFICATIONS:
Some experience in facilities maintenance necessary.
Must be 18 years of age or older.
Able to lift 50 lbs.

TRAINING:
Orientation to the Cancer Prevention Institute.
Introduction to facility needs and tools.
